National Consultations under way in Tiger Range Countries

Follow the mission outcomes on GTI web
The tiger range countries and partners are building a global program to save wild tigers and make it possible to double their populations over the next 12 years.
Consultations with governments and stakeholders in the Global Tiger Initiative began in late May as part of a process launched at the 1st Asia Ministerial Conference on Tiger Conservation, held in Hua Hin, Thailand, in January. Supporting teams are traveling to all the tiger range countries in the coming weeks to further develop the National Tiger Recovery Programs, to consider financing options for the programs, and to engage with important political players as the St. Petersburg Tiger Summit grows nearer. Stakeholders are also beginning to contemplate what kinds of pledges may make up the Global Tiger Recovery Program.

Consultations in Bangladesh
The discussions have launched in Bangladesh, Cambodia, and China, and will continue in other TRCs through the month of June (see tentative schedules below). The World Bank, World Wildlife Fund, Wildlife Conservation Society, IUCN, along with other local NGOs and stakeholders are expected to join with government counterparts in each of the tiger range countries to prepare the way for the Pre-Summit Partners Dialogue which will be held in Bali in July and the September Summit.

I look at a few of the drafts and I am proud of the Nations participating. As whole they are interested in Tiger Preservation & Conservation. Their developement of a draft outlining how they want to move forward as a nation is commendable. I admire your courage and devotion to the hard task at hand. When I go to the zoos in the United States and Canada. I will be thinking of how hard each of your Nations are working to keep such wonderful animals alive for future generations to admire. And to keep all of nature and mankind thriving in harmony. I will keep each Nation’s Task force in my thoughts and prayers.
Thank you, Debora
