Series of events highlighting need for tiger conservation efforts kicks off in Hanoi, Vietnam

Tiger conservation has become a popular topic of conversation in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. On July 29, the Biodiversity Conservation Agency and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Government of Vietnam will host a celebration of International Tiger Day. The city will be decorated with tiger-themed posters and banners and there will be several public events as well as performances by youth groups and schoolchildren. The festivities aim to raise awareness of tiger conservation and will include calls to stop poaching of tigers and the consumption of tiger products.
Following the celebration, from August 2 to 4, the Government of Vietnam and the Global Tiger Forum, with support from the Global Tiger Initiative, will host a three-day workshop of experts from the Tiger Range Countries (TRCs) to discuss best practices in scientific monitoring of tigers and prey and to agree on a framework for monitoring progress on the implementation of the Global Tiger Recovery Program (GTRP).
The focus on tiger conservation in Hanoi will continue on the evening August 5 when Vietnam’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the GTI hold a round table. The theme of the discussion will be wildlife trafficking and trade in Vietnam.
